The most popular and famous fort of Lalbagh Fort and the Mughal Emperor in Bangladesh is a great sign of art. It is known as Fort Aurangabad. It is located in Lalbagh of old Dhaka, so why not name it. It is located in the river Buriganga, a rich red soil. This is a Mughal emperor named Prince Muhammad Azam (third child of Aurangzeb) There was an incomplete structure by. He started working in Fort in 1678 during his Vice-royality in Bangladesh (East Bengal). He stayed in Bengal for 15 months. He is said by his father, Aurangzeb, when it remains incomplete.

Shaista Khan was the new Subedar at that time, and he did not complete the fort. In 1684, named after Shaista Khan's daughter Iran Dukht (Eli Bibi) died there. After his death, he started to feel castle as evil, and left the unfinished structure. Among the 3 main parts of Lalbagh Fort, one of the fairy goddess Bibi is buried.


After Shaista Khan left Dhaka, it lost its popularity. The main reason was to replace the capital Dhaka from Murshidabad. After the end of the royal Mughal period, the fort became abandoned. Lalbagh replaced Aurangabad, so in 1844 as the castle for the Lalbagh Fort, he got his name in the area.

The fort has three buildings

Mosque (west)
The tomb of Eli-Bibi (Middle East from the fort to the west)
Diwan- I am the palace (east)

The use of the mosque was used for prayer at that time, and yet. Nice structure and convenient work is great. People are amazed by seeing this kind of royal art. There are many Islamic art and wall designs are preserved.

Shaista Khan could'nt be well in this fort but he gorgeously designed the Tomb of the fairy goddess. He brought marble stones, tiles, flower-leaf crafts crafts there. This is the only place in Bangladesh where 9 rooms are equipped with this type of item. The roof is made of black stone. At the top of the grave, the dome is covered with pure copper. This beautiful 20.2 meter mausoleum was inaugurated in 1688.

Diwan-I am the greatest part of the Lalbagh Fort. It is used as the office of that time. Diwan-I Mum Mughal Emperor once gave guidance to the common people, from where the place is located. There is a royal bathroom room known as the East Bathroom or Bathroom.


There are 3 gateways to enter the castle. The South Gateway is one of the most important and one can see it from Buriganga. It has a three-storey structure. But the middle structure is covered by the tower. That's why it looks like a 2-storey structure.

There are royal gardens and drainage systems at the total area of ​​Lalbagh Fort. After a cartain time, Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb gave away his daughter Parve Bibi memorial Shaista Khan Fort. Shaista Khan's successor, the government got income after the death of the fort by lying on the fort. After 1853 Cantonment was replaced by Purana Paltan in Lalbagh Fort. The archaeological department of Bangladesh is currently maintaining this historic position. About 3 million people visit this place every year.
